6 tips on how to win the “Don’t be a jerk, take a picture of the ice cream and win.”

Our summer contest “Don’t be a jerk, take a picture of an ice cream and win.” is in full swing. We’ll be rewarding the winner of the summer contest with a gift certificate worth an even thousand.

If you haven’t entered our competition yet, here are six tricks from professional photographers to help you take a tempting and attractive picture of an ice cream cone that’s sure to look great. We’ll also tell you what not to do.

Tip 1: Choose a suitable location and lighting

Start by finding a well-lit spot. It’s best to use natural light. Maybe right by the outdoor Trdlokafe stand. The sunlight will add beautiful hues to the photo and enhance the contrast. Ideally, you want to shoot either early in the morning or late in the evening just before sunset. Professional photographers call this the golden hour. You may not be able to catch the sunrise due to opening hours, but we recommend photographing the trdelnik in the evening. The later the better..

Tip 2: Choose a suitable background

Choose a simple and unpretentious background. The background should illustrate summer, summer holidays or the place where you are taking the photo. Foreigners like to take photos with an ice cream cone on the Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background. However, it’s important to choose a background that doesn’t draw too much attention to itself. The star of the photo is the ice cream cone.

Council 3: Composition

You can place the ice cream cone in the center of the frame, but it’s better to offset it from the center to make room for the subject in the background. Filmmakers call background objects the second plan. Very experienced photographers also use the foreground when shooting. This means a blurred foreground object. This could be your hand. Another way to get an interesting composition is to play around with the angle you’re shooting from. For example, choose an overhead or top angle, which can add an interesting effect. Athletes, on the other hand, take photos from a slight angle to make them look bigger and stronger.

Tip 4: Use appropriate props

If you are not in an interesting place, you can enhance the photo with an interesting prop. Try adding a Trdlokafe latte, strawberries or other decorative elements that you will have on hand and can enhance the atmosphere and highlight the ice cream sundae experience. If you’re taking a selfie with the trdelkofe, use interesting glasses or a hat or hairstyle. This will make your picture more attractive.

Tip 5: Focus on the details

If, on the other hand, you’re only photographing a trifle, have the texture of the trifle, caramel crust or ice cream filling highlighted. Zooming in on one specific detail can create an enticing feel and impress the competition jury.

Tip 6: Spontaneity and personal style

The Trdlokafe necklace is a symbol of creativity. So don’t be afraid to experiment. Spontaneous shots of you enjoying an ice cream cone will always be very appealing and impressive. Give space to your personal style and the prize will be yours.

What not to do?

Don’t overdo it with the filters. There are lots of different photo editing apps available today to make colours richer and exposure, contrast, brightness and shadows better. Use only those that fit with your overall aesthetic sensibilities. The same goes for preset filters.

Finally, we remind you how to enter the competition. Just take a photo of one of the ice creams from Opočno in our trdelník, share the photo in instagram stories by 13 August 2023 and tag our IG profile @trdlokafe_czsk
